MONTY ENDS FALDO FEUD

Montgomerie's chances for Ryder Cup are slim

Colin Montgomerie has ended his feud with Nick Faldo although concedes that his Ryder Cup ambitions have suffered a blow.

The former European champion was accused of "being difficult" by Faldo at September's Seve Trophy in Ireland after the Scot missed a number of GB Team meetings.

Faldo told the Times in October that Montgomerie was the most difficult team member to deal with at the event.

"Monty's a tough one. He was the only one whose emotions I had to deal with," Faldo, who replaced the Scot as GB & Ireland Trophy captain.

"He only came to two of the five team meetings, so that was disappointing.

"Then he had to be teased out on to the 18th green to support his team. The bottom line was he hadn't won a point."

But the pair appear to have resolved their differences after Montgomerie claimed to have spoken to Faldo about the events in Ireland although admitted that his 2008 Ryder Cup chances look slim if he is forced to rely on being one of Faldo's picks despite his impressive record in the tournament.

"I've spoken to Nick and it's fine. It doesn't concern me. Nick is his own man. He's very individual," he said.

"I wouldn't lose any sleep over it [missing the Ryder Cup], I'd just make sure I qualified in 2010.

"It's just one of these things. I'm nowhere near it now because I made a particularly poor start to the qualifying situation, but I know if I play well in 2008 I'll qualify."

The 2008 Ryder Cup will take place at Valhalla in Kentucky with Europe looking for a fourth consecutive victory.
