DETTORI TIPPED FOR L'PRIX
It's Fallon vs Dettori this weekend as Longchamp hosts the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Dating back to 1920, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and today, with a 2,000,000 purse up for grabs, the "L'Arc" is one of the richest races in the horse racing betting season.
After riding the winner in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Frankie Dettori rides hot favourite Authorized in Sunday's racing highlight.
Dettori was expected to struggle to beat favourite Excellent Art last week, with many predicting his horse Ramonti would struggle to cope with the unfavourable ground. But the popular jockey surprised the punters to win by half a length at Ascot. Dettori has already won "L'Arc" three times before, in 1995, 2001 and 2002.
Authorized is the hot tip in the horse racing spread betting markets, with trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam describing that the Epsom Derby winner was "absolutely spot on" earlier in the week on his official website.
Chapple-Hyam will also boast a first victory at this event if his favourite lives up to the hype and in doing so, Authorized will follow in the footsteps of Sinndar (2000) and Lammtarra in (1995) as winners of both Epsom Derby and L'Prix in the same season.
Irish jockey Kieron Fallon rides one of the 14 competitors looking to cause something of an upset at Longchamp, looking to recent off-track issues behind him.
2005 winner Fallon, who will stand trial on Monday over allegations of betting fraud, rides Aidan O'Brien's Dylan Thomas although it is another of O'Brien's runners that is expected to be Dettori's main challenge.
Soldier of Fortune, who won the Irish Derby in June and last month's Prix Niel is expected to lead the chase on Sunday whilst Zambezi Sun and Niel runner-up Sagara are also likely to be in the mix.
