MIAMI WIN AS RECORDS FALL
The Miami Dolphins avoided American Football's most unwanted record after an overtime victory over Baltimore.
The Dolphins, who had lost all 13 of their previous NFL games including a 13-10 defeat to New York Giants at Wembley back in October, were on course for the first ever 0-16 record in NFL history ahead of their meeting with the Ravens.
But Greg Camarillo's 64-yard catch-and-run in overtime was enough to seal victory for the Dolphins, who would have suffered a 14th defeat had the usually dependable Matt Stover not hooked his 44-yard field goal attempt wide of the Dolphins posts.
Before the game, the side could have drawn on the inspiration of the Dolphins side of 1972, the only NFL side to boast a perfect season as they were paraded to the crowd pre-match.
Elsewhere, one record that was very much wanted was broken in St Louis, taking away the record held by Miami great Dan Marino.
38-year-old Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, already the record holder for the most touchdowns, broke another Marino record to throw his 61,405th passing yard as the Packers recorded a 33-14 victory over the struggling Rams.
After the game, Favre laughed off the comparisons with the Miami legend.
"I've said this all along and I will continue to say this, I've never considered myself in the same league as Dan Marino - maybe the greatest passer ever," Favre said.
"The way he did is probably the way you would coach someone to do it."
New England Patriots managed to equal another record, again held by the Dolphins with their 20-10 victory at home to the New York Jets. The hot favourites for the Super Bowl have now equalled the '72 Dolphins' 14-0 record although they still need to seal victory in their final two games to secure the perfect regular season record.
Meanwhile, New York Giants' play-off hopes were dealt a massive blow with the news that tight end Jeremy Shockey broke a leg in Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Washington Redskins.
