Super Bowl XLIV

The 44th installment of America's greatest sporting spectacle will take place on February 7th at Miami's Sun Life Stadium. The AFC's number one seeds, Indianapolis Colts, take on the NFC's number one and Super Bowl first-timers, New Orleans Saints - the first time since 1993 that both top seeds match up. Spread bettors to have bought either team's supremacy spreads in the regular season will know that both completely dominated and clearly deserve their shot in the Super Bowl. Fans and spread punters are clearly in for a treat.
The Indianapolis / New Orleans supremacy spread is set at 4-6 points. Buyers of the spread would relish a similar outcome to the huge 41-10 Colts victory when the sides last met on Kickoff weekend in 2007. However, spread sellers will know that the Saints are a much improved side and they've recorded a few big wins of their own this season, most recently with a 45-14 victory over Arizona in the divisional playoffs. Spread sellers will also be aware that New Orleans will be aided by the majority of their nation's support thanks to the part the franchise is playing in the rebuilding effort after Hurricane Katrina. On the other hand, buyers of the spread will appreciate that the Colts superior experience balances this. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and of course Peyton Manning, among others, own Super Bowl rings.
Buyers of Sporting Index's total points spread, at 58, will be with the neutrals in hoping for a high-scoring thriller. The season record would suggest that this will indeed be the case, as the Colts possess the second-ranked passing offense while the Saints can boast the fourth-best aerial attack. The pass-defense record is not so impressive, as New Orleans are ranked just 26, while Indy are ranked 14th - music to the ears of points spread buyers. Buyers and sellers of the touchdown yardage spread should also take this on board.
As last year, when Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisberger went head-to-head, spread punters can expect plenty of attention to be lavished on the two quarterbacks. There was plenty of support on the spreads for the Colt's superstar QB Peyton Manning throughout the regular season, but despite throwing for 33 touchdowns, he was outshone by Drew Brees. The Saints' Brees has thrown 34 touchdown passes and 4,388 yards so far and, as explained, spread bettors might expect a few more to come. Sporting Index offer a quarterback passing yards supremacy spread so both spread buyers and sellers should be interested in the teams' passing averages this season. New Orleans are ranked first with a 403.8yd average, while with an equivalent of 363.1 yards, the Colts are only ninth in the NFL. However, sellers of the Saints supremacy spread will know that you can't write off Manning in this biggest of games and he will be brimming with confidence with memories of three touchdown passes last time against the Saints. In the same game, Brees completed 28 passes but for a lowly 192 yards.
