The Six Nations are Coming
The Autumn Tests must seem like a fair time ago but rugby union spread punters need not wait too much longer for the resumption of international action as the Six Nations Championship kicks off on 6th February. Despite some exciting recent European Cup action to sate rugby spread betting appetites it's not quite anything to compare to seeing six of the northern hemisphere's best sides lock horns over six weeks. In terms of the individual rivalries there are none as intense in the sport as that between England and Wales and the match between the two at Twickenham dominates the opening weekend.
Sellers of England's supremacy spread may remember the home side's 19-26 defeat on the last occasion they ran out with Wales at Twickenham. Both buyers of England's supremacy and win index spread will do better to look at Wales' entire Six Nations record at the home of English rugby and will notice that this is their only victory over their rivals here since 2000. Sellers of Wales win index may also observe the size of some of their defeats, most notably the 62-5 trouncing in August 2007.
Sporting Index's match points spreads always see a fair chunk of the spread bettors' hard-earned and many will have already swotted up on the match referee and the south-west London weather forecast prior to buying or selling. England, one can assume mainly thanks to metronomic kicking machine Jonny Wilkinson, are the record points scorers in the Six Nations, with 1511 from their 50 matches, an impressive average of over 30 per game. Points spread sellers may argue that a big proportion must have been scored against Italy over the years, and that the 2010 England are not a patch on the record-scoring 2003 side. However, to buyers of England's points and supremacy spreads, it's a massive boost that the formerly fragile fly-half is fit.
Of further encouragement to buyers of points and also of the England tries spread, despite some poor displays in the 2009 Championship, the Red Rose were joint top points scorers with 124 and top try scorers with 16. Spread sellers on the other hand would rather highlight England's singular try in their November Tests. Delon Armitage's return from injury will be of interest to spread punters who like to buy or sell player try minutes as the full-back had a great tournament last year, scoring three tries. However, Sporting Index will expect more buyers of Shane Williams' spread - even at the age of 32, the Ospreys winger can singlehandedly change games. He's scored 48 tries for his country.
There's less to say about the match between current Grand Slam Champions Ireland and Italy at Croke Park, other than point out that Sporting Index's supremacy spread is expectant of a large winning margin for the Boys in Green. Spread buyers of Tommy Bowe's try minutes will hope he can get back to his best form shown in the Magners League this season with Ospreys, when he scored four touchdowns in five games - including one appearance as a sub. 26-year old Julien Malzieu is likely to interest spread bettors in outright spread favourite France's opener against Scotland. He only won his first cap a couple of years ago but scored two tries in the 2009 Championship.
