Time to Look at the Table

As always the festive fixtures provided much entertainment for spread bettors over a bitterly cold Christmas period. As 2010 kicks-off, and with the FA Cup third round almost complete, spread punters can once again turn their attention to Premier League action. The highlight of the weekend looks to be Tottenham's trip to Anfield, although Birmingham versus Manchester United will be sure to have spread enthusiasts licking their lips.
Supporters of Liverpool on the spreads will be delighted to see the back of 2009 after a torrid first half of the season. Buyers of their win index spread against Tottenham can take heart from the fact that they haven't lost at Anfield against Spurs throughout the last decade - their last home defeat came in 1998 in the League Cup. Spread bettors looking to sell their win index will point out that Tottenham have had the upper-hand in recent fixtures though - including a 2-1 win on the opening day of the season at White Hart Lane. Tottenham have won three of the last four in all competitions against Rafa Benitez's side. Down the years this fixture has often provided plenty of profit for total goal buyers with six of the last eight meetings between the sides producing three or more goals.
Buyers of United's win index will have noted their impressive record against Birmingham which has seen them never lose to the Blues in the Premier League. The sides have met on 11 occasions with Birmingham only managing two draws. Spread bettors looking to buy United's supremacy spread will be aware that the last three league meetings have all been decided by a one goal margin - whilst the Blues also managed to shut out Chelsea only a few weeks ago. Spread punters looking to take on United will take confidence that Alex McLeish's side last lost at the end of October and have kept seven clean sheets from 12 matches in this run. Sporting Index traders will be conscious this game often is a calm affair with the highest bookings make-up of 50 in the last six matches - the average being just 27 points over those six.
Arsenal's season continues to go from strength to strength and buyers of their win index spread against Everton will be hoping they can extend their winning run to four games. Punters looking to sell the Gunners' supremacy against the Toffees will need to think carefully before parting with their money following the 6-1 trashing earlier in the season. Spread bettors that bought goal minutes that afternoon would have been delighted and the last six meeting between the sides have also seen some large totals - 400, 151, 217, 77 and 292. The spread betting public could be tempted to sell the time of Everton's first goal seeing as two of the last three league meetings at the Emirates have seen them score in the 9th and 11th minute. Buyers, though, will point to the 2008 fixture where the Toffees failed to find the net.
