JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
Sporting Index spill the beans on one of their worst ever cricket days
London, 13th August 2007 – Spread betting company Sporting Index thought that offering their clients some free jelly beans would be a nice topical gesture. However, surely they couldn’t have known that one punter who received the lucky beans would go on to win £55,000 betting on India’s first innings runs – a whopping 664. The original prediction from the bookmakers was 390 runs and the innings that became nearly as long as Jack’s famous beanstalk turned into a complete nightmare.
“We thought giving our clients a few jelly beans was a nice gesture”, comments Sporting Index spokesman Karl Suntay. “We had no idea that this would be one of the most expensive cricket days. I think a few of the traders were hoping the giant would come and eat them up to take the pain away.”
