The best league in the world?

The beauty of football betting, and in particularly football spread betting, is that games are interesting whatever their quality. There is no big, flagship Premier League game this weekend, but that isn’t going to stop spread bettors trying to win some money off the Sporting Index traders. Liverpool grabbed a vital 1-0 win in the Champions League at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night and that now looks to be their best chance of landing a trophy. However, Rafa Benitez will not give up on the league until it is mathematically impossible and those who like a spread bet will certainly like to see the Premier League race go down to the last few weeks.

Middlesbrough play host to Benitez’s side on Saturday and spread sellers of Liverpool supremacy will be delighted that since the Spaniard has been at the helm, his side have lost almost 60% (W5-D4-L13) of their away Premier League matches directly after a Champions League game. However, there are always two sides to every story in spread betting and buyers will be more encouraged that they have won both such fixtures this campaign. Teesside has not been a happy hunting ground for Benitez though and the Riverside Stadium is the only current non-Big Four Premier League ground where he has failed to take all three points (doesn’t include grounds where they’ve only played once). Most spread punters normally like games full of aggression and goal scoring chances, but buyers of goals in this game on the spreads will be worried about Middlesbrough’s current run. They have scored just one goal in nine games, which is the second worst since the Premier League began.

Arsenal also picked up a 1-0 midweek Champions League win, but spread bettors who have bought them in the outright index will be worried that they didn’t press home their territorial advantage. The Emirates hasn’t been the fortress it normally is of late in the league though and punters looking to buy either total match goals, or Gunners supremacy on the spreads, won’t be pleased that Arsenal are currently enduring their worst-ever goal scoring run at home under Wenger. They have found the back of the net just four times in their last seven league games in North London and not more than once in any of those, so the Gunners certainly aren’t the spread betting goal buyers’ friends of old at present. In fact, their opponents Fulham are every bit as stingy on the road as the Gunners are at home which will please spread sellers of goals. The Cottagers have managed to get the ball over the line just three times in their last 13 away league games which is a Premier League record low.
