THE OPEN WINNERS
The Open Championship is the oldest of the four major championships in men's golf is one of the golf betting highlights of the year.
With so much prestige, it is unsurprising that the only major held outside of the US turns up so many upsets and dramatic events and whilst it is one of the golf betting calendar’s most popular events, it can be one of the hardest to predict.
In 1999, the Open at Carnoustie turned up one of the biggest surprises in recent golf betting history as Jean Van de Velde fell in spectacular fashion on the final hole to hand victory to Paul Lawrie. The same event also managed to reduce a 19-year-old Sergio Garcia to tears.
Who can forget Todd Hamilton’s victory in 2004 as he upset the golf betting formbook as he earned a one-shot victory over Phil Mickelson on the final hole.
