NEXT GENERAL ELECTION IN 2007?
London, 1st August 2007 – Spread Betting Bookmakers Sporting Index yesterday announced that they are no longer taking bets on the number of weeks until the next General Election after a wave of support.
Having originally predicted 52 weeks when Gordon Brown came to office, that figure had fallen by 20 weeks before being suspended this morning. “As David Cameron is having such a tough time at present, punters obviously believe that Brown may call an early Election”, says spokesman Karl Suntay. “There have even been rumours circling the City over the last few days that it could even be called within the next five months”.
The arrival of Brown and the unpopularity of the Conservatives over the last month, has seen the prediction for Labour seats won at the next General Election rise from 288 to 321 seats. During the same time period, the Conservatives have seen their expected seat gains fall from 283 to just 253 seats.
