SUPER SEPTEMBER
After summer of rain and misery, weathermen and bookmakers reckon September could be one of the warmest and driest on record
London, 22nd August 2007 - The summer of 2006 has been one of the wettest in living memory, but spread betting company Sporting Index are predicting a balmy September which could see the warmest average temperature on record, as well as one of the driest September’s for 40 years. The average temperature last September was 15.2 degrees c which was the warmest on record and the spread betting experts are predicting this year will hit 15.4 degrees c – music to the ears of ice cream van owners around the land.
With constant rain and terrible flooding this summer, people are praying for a dry month and although average rainfall is unlikely to drop below the record level of 23.7mm in 1959, Sporting Index are predicting only 31.2mm to fall during September. This would be the second driest month on record and give people the chance to enjoy at least a few days of summer.
“The last week in August has been much improved,” says Jim Dale from the British Weather Services, “We’re going to get off to a flyer in September as well and we expect the high pressure to continue with dry, settled weather well into September – a great relief after one of the wettest summers on record.”
Karl Suntay, Sporting Index spokesman, comments:
“This has been one of the most disappointing summers I can remember – especially after last year’s record-breaking temperatures.” comments Karl Suntay, Sporting Index spokesman, “There have been some very strong clues to a sustained dry and warm period in September and we are sticking our necks out that September will be a record breaker.”
