THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH
TV ratings record for the Super Bowl expected to be broken on Sunday night
London, 30th January 2008 - The world’s biggest sporting event takes place on Sunday night when the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. The current record for Super Bowl viewing figures is from 1996 when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, with an average of 94.1million viewers.
Last year’s Indianapolis Colts-Chicago Bears game came closest to breaking the record (93.2million) and with New England aiming to become only the second team in history to remain unbeaten all season, Sporting Index predict that the record will be broken and an average of 94.8million viewers will tune in.
“It’s been an amazing season for the Patriots so far,” comments Sporting Index spokesman Karl Suntay, “They are on the verge of making history and we think the ratings are as well. All this and Janet Jackson won’t even be performing!”
