GRAND NATIONAL WINNERS
The Grand National is not only the most prestigious national hunt race meeting in the UK but also one of the biggest days in the spread betting calendar, with thousands of casual punters placing a horse racing bet for Aintree’s most prestigious event.
It is also the scene of many a horse racing betting upset. Between 1997 and 2007, on only three occasions has the favourite been first past the finishing post. 2007 winner Silver Birch was a 33/1 outsider, as was Red Marauder in 2001. The 1950’s saw even bigger upsets as Teal and ESP both came through as 100/8 shots in 1952 and 1956 respectively.
Around 600million people are thought to tune in to the flagship event and thanks to online spread betting, even more people are starting to experience the enjoyment of horse racing betting.
