RUGBY WORLD CUP WINNERS
Since the first tournament was hosted by New Zealand in 1987, the Rugby World Cup has established itself as one of the world’s showpiece events, attracting mass rugby betting activity every four years.
It wasn’t until 2003 when dominance of the Southern Hemisphere was ended as Jonny Wilkinson’s extra-time drop goal sealed victory for England.
France had come close to breaking the pattern in 1999 after they surprised the rugby betting markets by beating the much fancied New Zealand in the semi-finals. Their reward was a final tie against Australia at the Millennium Stadium. However, the Wallabies’ class shone through as they recorded a 35-12 victory.
In 1995, there were also plenty of results to upset many rugby betting fans. England’s quarter-final victory over Australia, courtesy of Rob Andrew’s long-range drop-goal sealed a 25-22 victory before England went out to France and South Africa’s final victory may have come to the delight of the host nation’s fans, but many rugby betting fans were left ruing their decision to back the favourites.
In 2007, the tournament heads to France. The rugby betting markets have New Zealand ranked as favourites, but will it be a dark horse that takes the glory?
