SUPER LEAGUE WINNERS
The introduction of summer rugby has brought the sport of rugby league. More people are heading to the grounds, more are watching the game on TV and more and more people are enjoying rugby league spread betting.
Today, the traditional ‘big four’ of Leeds, Wigan, Bradford and St Helens takes on less significance. Sides like Hull, Warrington have broken into the game’s elite and whilst only four names appear on the Super League roll of honour, rugby betting fans now find it even more difficult to pick a winner on match day.
After St Helens won the first Super League in 1996, the Bradford Bulls caused a stir in the rugby betting world, winning twenty consecutive games en-route to the Super League title.
The following year, Super League reverted to a Grand Final and play-offs system to decide its champion and the drama of the play-offs has seen some results which have surprised the rugby betting world.
In 1999, fifth-placed Castleford shocked both Wigan and Leeds as they came within one game of the Grand Final and in the same year, St Helens became the first “2nd place” side to win the Super League.
In 2005, St Helens surprised the rugby betting markets and earned the unenviable record of being the first side to finish the season as league leaders who failed to win the Grand Final and Bradford, thanks to a late surge in form, won the title from third position.
The Saints atoned for that disappointment a year later, going on to complete an unprecedented treble and make rugby betting history.
