SUPER BOWL
Dubbed as the greatest show on earth, the NFL Super Bowl attracts world record TV viewing figures, billions of dollars in advertising revenue and huge amounts of NFL betting interest.
With so much at stake for both sides, shocks are always on the cards and it’s a match that’s impossible to predict, with a matter of inches quite literally being all that stands Super Bowl glory and a winning NFL bet.
In Super Bowl XXXIV, Running Back was tackled just one yard short of giving the Tennessee Titans victory over St Louis Rams in a play that went down in history simply as “The Tackle”. The commentary simply went “The Rams have won the Super Bowl – by a yard!” as a 23-16 victory proved enough to clinch the first ever Super Bowl for the Rams.
In Super Bowl XXXVIII, Oakland Raiders went into the game as 4-point favourites on the NFL spread betting market but succumbed to an embarrassing 48-21 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to leave many NFL betting fans stunned.
But undoubtedly the biggest shock came in Super Bowl XXXVI as St Louis took on the New England Patriots in New Orleans.
The Rams came in as 14-point favourites on the NFL spread bet, the biggest ever favourite for a Super Bowl and their offence consisting of Kurt Warner, Issac Bruce, Torry Holt and Marshall Faulk was expected to make light work of the Patriots and rookie quarter-back Tom Brady.
But it was Brady who stole the show, marching the Patriots the length of the field in the final minutes with the scores tied at 17-17. After getting New England to the 30-yard line, Adam Vinatieri kicked the winning field goal as the clock hit zero to complete the biggest shock in Super Bowl and NFL betting history.
