Frankie Dettori: Racing Insights 04/07/2020
Frankie Dettori’s Sporting Index blog: Sunday at Sandown
It looks like a really strong renewal and you can see why the racing public may be looking forward to this race even more so than the Derby.
Some of them have been around for a while, they’ve become household names and they are the true heavyweights of our sport.
Enable’s been off the track since last October and is coming into the race as best we can get her.
Given we’re up against horses who have already had a run, she might not have the fitness advantage and she’ll certainly be expected to come on for it, but you’ve got to start off somewhere and in her case it’s a top-level race against fit, high-class horses.
Our advantage is she’s the joint top-rated horse in the world at 128 and obviously we’re all very excited to see her back.
She’s never been the best workhorse but we had a racecourse gallop at the July course last week and it was good to do something a bit different with her, as you’ve got to keep a six-year-old mare fully motivated.
We’re looking forward to it but you have to respect the opposition, of which Japan and Ghaiyyath look the main dangers.
Japan would have needed his run first time up at Ascot and has to be respected as last season’s Juddmonte winner, while Ghaiyyath showed what he could do last time out at Newmarket.
Lord North is also in there and he showed he’s heading in the right direction when winning the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.
Whoever is first past the post has overcome all of those challenges and beaten the best three-year-olds around.
