NFL Playoffs: Conference Champs Betting Preview
NFL Conference Championships 2020 Preview: Who Will Book Their Place at Super Bowl LIV?
Just four teams remain standing in the NFL postseason and their fans are daring to dream of Super Bowl glory. The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a stunning comeback victory over the Texans to tee up a Conference Championship showdown with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. American football fans can look forward to an exciting double-header, as the Green Bay Packers will then bid to topple the San Francisco 49ers at the Levi’s Stadium in California. A place in the Super Bowl is up for grabs and both games promise to be ferocious and exhilarating in equal measures.
Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs
Vegan power has helped carry the Tennessee Titans all the way to the AFC Championship game. A dozen members of the roster starred in the Netflix documentary Game Changers, which highlights a growing number of athletes that are thriving thanks to plant-based diets. Outside linebacker Derrick Morgan started the trend when his wife Charity, a professional chef, started whipping up exciting creations, and now a number of his teammates have joined the revolution.
The Titans keep defying the odds: they entered the playoffs as an unheralded wildcard following a 9-7 season, but they pulled off a huge upset by beating the reigning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, in their own backyard. Many anticipated the dream run would end there, as Tennessee landed a fiendishly difficult divisional round clash with the Baltimore Ravens, who were the favourites to win the Super Bowl after securing the best regular season record in the league. However, the Titans lived up to their name with yet another fantastic performance.
The Chiefs have always been among the favourites to win Super Bowl LIV thanks to the supreme talents of QB Patrick Mahomes. He won the NFL MVP award last season and he has maintained that blistering form throughout the current campaign. Mahomes led Kansas City to a 12-4 regular season record. The Chiefs won their final six games to finish comfortably top of the AFC West, and they landed a divisional round showdown with the Houston Texans.
They found themselves 24-0 down by the second quarter and staring down the barrel of a humiliating elimination. They had made a mere 12 plays and gained just 41 yards, while they dropped four passes, including three on third down. Yet Mahomes led a record-breaking comeback. He became just the eight quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 300 yards and at least five touchdowns in a postseason game, while he also put up 56 rushing yards. The Chiefs scored six consecutive touchdowns before the Texans answered back, and they went on to win 51-31.
Kansas City Chiefs v Tennessee Titans: The Key Stats
The Chiefs became the first team in NFL history to win by more than 20 points after having trailing by 20-plus points in a playoff game. Their 24-point comeback was the fourth-largest in playoff history and the largest in the franchise’s history. They became the first team in 18 years to score 41 unanswered points in a playoff game. The Texans had been 5-0 for the season when leading by 14-plus points, but they were totally overwhelmed by the genius of Mahomes. At 52 combined points, the first-half was the highest-scoring in playoff history. Travis Kelce and Damian Williams each scored three touchdowns during the historic rout.
The Titans defence was on the field for 97 snaps during that famous win against Baltimore. That made it their busiest game of the season, but they stood strong against one of the best offences in the business. Running back Derrick Henry had another sensational game, as he bulldozed through Baltimore for 195 yards. He has now run for 377 yards in his two postseason games, breaking several playoff records in the process. It followed a regular season in which he won the rushing title with an impressive 1,540 yards, and Tennessee must now consider making him the highest paid running back of all time.
Kansas City Chiefs v Tennessee Titans Betting
The Chiefs have been handed a 6-8 point Supremacy Index over the Titans in the American Football spread betting odds. You can buy at 8 if you think they will secure a comprehensive victory, or sell at 6 if you think they will only win narrowly or lose the game. Total Points has been set at 51-54, so our traders are anticipating an entertaining game between two exciting teams.

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers
The Packers ended the regular season with five straight wins to top the NFC North with a 13-3 record. That secured them a bye to the divisional round, where they hosted the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The evergreen Aaron Rodgers completed 16 of 27 passes for 243 yards and particularly excelled on third down to lead his team to victory. It is a decade since Rodgers last delivered a Super Bowl triumph for Green Bay, and they are now just two wins away from repeating the feat.
They also had a plucky defence to thank for that win over a strong Seattle team, as they battled bravely to contain quarterback Russell Wilson. The Packers have carried an underdog tag all season thanks to their rookie coach, pieced together defence and tendency to put in ugly performances. Yet they are full of belief right now and they will take some stopping in Sunday’s big game.
The San Francisco 49ers were arguably the best team in the league during the regular season. They finished second in terms of points scored, fourth in yards gained and second in yards yielded. It translated to a 13-3 regular season record and saw them comfortably saunter into the divisional round. They came up against the Minnesota Vikings and that dominant defence led the Niners to a 27-10 victory.
Robert Saleh’s unit clearly benefited from the bye week as they looked sharp, healthy and hell-bent on snuffing out the Vikings’ run game. Big hitters Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner harassed Kirk Cousins throughout the contest and suffocated any wideouts. The defence looked tired in December and conceded an average of 29.4 points over five games, but it was back to its ferocious best on Sunday. If Bosa and co remain fresh for the game on Sunday they will cause nightmares for Aaron Rodgers’ offence.
San Francisco 49ers v Green Bay Packers: The Key Stats
The 49ers’ defence gave up just seven first downs against the Vikings. That is the third fewest of any team in a playoff game and a franchise record in the Super Bowl era. In offence, it was all about the run game for San Francisco. They ran 47 times for an impressive 185 yards, with Tevin Coleman leading the charge. Jimmy Garoppolo is never a flawless QB, and he completed 11 of 19 against the Vikings. Yet he does not need to be an elite signal-caller when the defence is so dominant and the run game is so devastating.
The stats do not make great reading for Packers fans. Green Bay finished 15th in yards gained during the regular season and 18th in yards given up. Rodgers has the best passer rating in NFL history, but he had an average by his high standards, finishing just 12th in QB rating. Packers fans will also remember the humiliating defeat they suffered against the 49ers in the regular season. Rodgers was sacked five times that day and took just 3.2 yards-per-attempt, the lowest of his entire career. Running back Aaron Jones had 38 yards on 13 carries. However, the Niners’ defence was not so dominant after that game, and the Packers have made a habit of defying the odds, so you cannot write them off.
