Sports fans can look forward to the Cheltenham Festival, the Players Championship, the start of a new Formula One season and many more highlights in March. These are the key sporting events to mark in your diary:

4th March

Cricket:

England take on India in the fourth Test at Sardar Patel Stadium in Gujarat. India lead the series 2-1, but England could draw the series if they were to win this final Test.

Football

Liverpool take on Chelsea in an intriguing Premier League clash at Anfield. The Premier League champions have endured a difficult season so far, and Chelsea are resurgent under Thomas Tuchel, so it promises to be a fascinating contest. Everton host West Brom and Spurs face Fulham earlier in the day.

7th March

Football:

Golf:

The top 50 golfers in the world will descend upon Florida to vie for glory in a tournament regularly dubbed “the fifth major”. This year’s tournament has a prize fund of $12.5 million and takes place at the TPC at Sawgrass Stadium. All eyes will be on the likes of Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau.

12th March

Cricket

The first of five T20I clashes between India and England takes place at Sardar Patel Stadium, with subsequent matches on 14th March, 15th March, 16th March and 18th March.

Rugby Union:

Italy host Wales in Rome and then England tangle with France at Twickenham as we approach the business end of the Six Nations campaign.

Football:

16th March

Horse Racing:

The opening day of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival features four Grade 1 races, including the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the Arkle and the Mares’ Hurdle. Yet the biggest of them all is the Champion Hurdle, the most prestigious hurdling event in the National Hunt calendar. Last year’s winner, Epatante, is expected to return to defend her crown, but she faces stiff competition from the likes of Honeysuckle and Goshen.

Football:

Man City will aim to wrap up victory over Borussia Monchengladbach after beating them 2-0 in the first leg, while Real Madrid host Atalanta at the Bernabeu.

17th March

Horse Racing:

Day two at Cheltenham features the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the leading minimum-distance chase in the National Hunt season. Chacun Pour Soi is the heavy favourite, but two-time winner Altior and 2020 champion Politologue will be in contention. It will also be interesting to see if the legendary Tiger Roll returns to glory in the Cross Country Chase.

Horse Racing:

Horse Racing:

The final day at the Cheltenham Festival builds up to the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the biggest National Hunt race of the season. It takes place over 3 miles 2 furlongs and 70 yards, with 22 fences to be jumped. Willie Mullins’ Al Boum Photo is going for a hat-trick of wins, but the likes of A Plus Tard and Champ will aim to stop him.

20th March

Rugby Union

The Six Nations draws to a close with Scotland vs. Italy, Ireland vs. England and France vs. Wales. Who will seize the crown?
